We took the bullet train to Kyoto and stayed in a traditional Japanese style ryokan. We dropped off our luggage in the AM and by checkin, they had hot tea and cookies waiting for us. We even took the traditional hot springs bath and when we returned to our rooms, we saw that our sneakers were 'polished' for us. THEN, we had our host serve us a tremendous autumn themed meal complete with boiling hotpot, sushi, tempura and hand carved fish cakes. Now that's what I call room service...
