Salina, KS- Cheese Free Sliders @ Cozy Inn
Our Road Food book has never steered us wrong. We stopped in Salina, KS for the home of the one of the original slider joints opened back in 1922. They serve their sliders with onions and no cheese- you provide the mustard and ketchup. No exceptions- well, except for Jeff who asked very nicely during a non peak time...

Kansas City BBQ- Arther Bryant's
Little known fact: From Sept 1996 to March 1997, JSP lived in Kansas City, MO. She lived with her co-worker from Accenture, Nancy, in a 2 bdr apartment above Houston's in the Plaza. They had rented furniture from CORT and a Schwinn exercise bike.
Besides that, Arthur Bryant's burnt ends sandwich was the only other thing she remembered.

Road Food- Foot High Pies @ Blue Springs Cafe
There was no way we weren't going to stop for Foot High Pie at the Blue Springs Cafe on our way to Kansas City, MO. We had chicken dumplings and a piece of the chocolate pie. Mmmm...
Here's are a few more detailed words and pictures of the place and their pie...

B-Town in O-Town- Ottawa that is...
Our last stop in Canada was Ottawa to visit Jeff's cousins, Andy, Sheli, and their three kids. As with the rest of Canada, it's an impeccably clean and friendly town with beautiful sights and a picturesque waterfront. Did you know it was the capital city of Canada?
In case you were wondering, according to Andy's son, Liam, Ralph's has the best bacon in the world.

The Dol of Logan Dae Ho Park
We celebrated our nephew's first birthday (known as Dol in Korean) over the July 4th weekend with a huge feast. Here he is in his special Korean costume. Isn't he cute?
One of the traditions includes having the birthday boy pick an item of his choosing. Each of the items symbolize aspects of his future including:
Rice: He will never go hungry
String: He will live a long life
Dollar Bill: He will be prosperous/rich
Pencil: He will be a scholar

Final Sampling of Carolina BBQ
Southern Hospitality: Mrs. Wilkes
INSTANT CLASSIC!
This is one of our best stops of the trip. An absolute must. Definitely worth the wait.
Food is served family style, all you can eat, and you bus your own tables. There were more than 20 dishes to sample- from perfectly fried chicken to boiled turnips. Jeff's favorite was the creamed corn and mac and cheese. Jin Sun liked everything...

Savannah Road Food
True to form, your Road Food book lead us to this unassuming roadside shack, Duke's. Inside, they served one thing- Carolina style pulled pork accompanied by sweet tea, cole slaw and rice. It was all you can eat! That was our first taste...
In Savannah, we found ourselves at Desposito's, a seafood shack in a deserted part of an inlet. Shrimp was their specialty- served whole, steamed and shell on. As you can see, there are no signs for the restaurant and it took us awhile to find it.
The most famous restaurant in Savannah was one we didn't go to- Lady & Sons. We did however stop by for a picture and browsed her retail shop to sample her 'Gooey Cake'- an instant hit with Jeff.
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil: Savannah
We decided to revisit the book (we downloaded the audiobook) on the drive down. Would highly recommend reading or re-reading before you go down there. We stopped by many of the places mentioned in the (Mercer/Williams House - Kevin Spacey's character's house), the cemetery, and even the block where the opening to Forrest Gump was filmed.
