Miga, Jin Sun, and Quatchi

JSP didn't remember who won the Olympic ski jump event at Whistler, but she will never forget Miga and Quatchi- 2 of the mascots of the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Celebrity Sitings in Vancouver

JSP with Tojo at his eponymous restaurant. Self proclaimed inventor of the California Roll, Tojo is the Nobu of Vancouver and the only celebrity JSP cared aboot. Tojo was gracious enough to introduce us to his other friend from the Bay Area, Raj Mathai.

We spotted Cris Collinsworth at the Bay Dept store doing some shopping on his time off from press coverage from NBC.

Burning Man 2009- Part 1

Yes, Jeff and I went to Burning Man! It was a last minute decision and fortunately, we were able to join our friends' Juliane and Andre's camp, Kitchen Chromosome.

Here we are arriving into Burning Man 2009. We get hauled out of our car to join some Burning Man vets in a rite of passage- the Dust Angel and Ringing of the Bell. It was just the beginning.

South Lake Tahoe- Fire and Ice

We ventured to South Lake for some eating, socializing, and gambling with D$ and the Szizzle. You may remember them from their rockin' party in blog post dated 8/27/09. Here we are at Fire & Ice- a DIY Mongolian Grill of sorts.

Weekend in SF- Celebrating D$ and Jules

The Szizzle and D$ hosted a gathering in San Francisco to celebrate D$'s birthday and Jule's visit to SF. For those of you still on FB, you've seen a few of these already. If you've already fled FB, enjoy.

B-Town in O-Town- Ottawa that is...

Our last stop in Canada was Ottawa to visit Jeff's cousins, Andy, Sheli, and their three kids. As with the rest of Canada, it's an impeccably clean and friendly town with beautiful sights and a picturesque waterfront. Did you know it was the capital city of Canada?

In case you were wondering, according to Andy's son, Liam, Ralph's has the best bacon in the world.

Special Guests from Singapore

As our regular readers may have noticed, we have recurring special guests!!!
Seetha and Mahim were in town all the way from Singapore. Here we are at Luzzo's- mentioned before in our pizza progressive.

The Jersey Shore- Avalon with the Cromptons

We spent a few days at the shore in Avalon, New Jersey with the Cromptons. The weather was great and the company was even better. Here's a picture of the happy couple- Jimmy Szizzle and Danielle (otherwise known as D$ and after that weekend, "Char")

The Dol of Logan Dae Ho Park

We celebrated our nephew's first birthday (known as Dol in Korean) over the July 4th weekend with a huge feast. Here he is in his special Korean costume. Isn't he cute?

One of the traditions includes having the birthday boy pick an item of his choosing. Each of the items symbolize aspects of his future including:
Rice: He will never go hungry
String: He will live a long life
Dollar Bill: He will be prosperous/rich
Pencil: He will be a scholar

Flashback 1 - Final Four in Detroit

With special guests Charlie "Lone Wolf" Whittaker and Dick Vitale.

This was the 12th Final Four run for Charlie and I and there really is no sign of slowing down anytime soon.

By the way, we ran into Vitale several times and he was always traveling with "The Schwab" of "Stump the Schwab" fame. Not only that, it seemed like the Schwab was actually his personal assistant/gopher. Pretty funny.

By the way, we highly recommend the world famous American Coney Island in downtown detroit.

Chas ate there (open 24 hours) approximately 6 times over a 3 day period and I ate there at least 4 times (they have burgers).

Flashback 2 - Detroit: So Many Justices, So Little Time

It was great to meet up with friends Tom and Tina Justice who live outside of Detroit.

Here with Tom and Tina's kids (Andrew - on the right - and Katherine) and a friend of theirs who we'll just call "not a Justice" because that's what he is.

If that weren't enough, Charlie and I accidentally hung out with yet ANOTHER Justice (Dave - yes, the former major leaguer. OK, not really.) who was visiting from St. Louis. This was during the day (Monday) in the Marriott bar in the GM building. We didn't know this at the time, but he subsequently described his conversation with two random, hungover, California based IU alums to Tina and Tom and they put together the pieces like modern day Colombo's. We all met up again before the game on Monday night.

There's a fabled video the festivities floating around as well. Unfortunately, Tina chose to record the video in a format (codec) that's only readable on a Commodore 64, so it will never be seen.

Final Shoutouts from Omaha

The theme this year was Western- far stretch, eh?

Shout out to the owners of Gorat's Steak- Warren's favorite steak hangout and serving up hundreds of steaks to the hungry in one evening.

Shout out to Woody (and his building full of followers) - who told us about DixieQuick's featured on the Food Network's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives with Guy Fieri.
Great brunch- Jeff and Padma recommend anything smothered in their Tomato Butter sauce!

Onwards to Omaha!

This year, we were joined by our good friend, Padma in participation of what has been called Woodstock for Capitalists. 35,000 Warren Buffet fanatics descend upon Omaha- even Charlie Munger has his own cult following. Jeff's all about the finance (with new friend Becky Quick from CNBC), Jin Sun's all about the steak (and fruit), and Padma's all about the partying!
