On the Road with Jules

Who's that getting into the Lil' Buddy Honda?

Special Guest Star # 5- Julie Helwig joins us for a leg of our roadtrip. From Dallas to Austin, TX.

A historical moment as we actually have a 3rd passenger in the car and someone else to share the experience.

Dallas - The Grassy Knoll

Jeff on the historical grassy knoll in Dallas, TX. We tried to re-enact the magic loogie but thought it in bad taste.

In related news, one of the tours on which we eavesdropped mentioned the involvement of Charles Harrelson, a contract killer and Woody Harrelson's father.

Texas Road Food

On the way to Dallas, we had our pick of roadside goodies. We elected to eat at The Original Fried Pie Place and Dyers Bar B Que.

Fried Pie Selection: Lemon- so piping hot out of the deep fryer that it almost exploded in the bag as we attempted to eat it.

Dyer's - combo plates for the two of us. The first foray into Texas style BBQ.

Santa Fe, NM...mmm...delicious

First, it was Pasquals. Packed on a Monday night, we squeezed in for an early dinner.
Then breakfast the next morning at Harry's Roadhouse. Jeff got the blue corn waffle with honey maple syrup and a dollop of butter. Jin Sun enjoyed her chilequiles with scrambled eggs.

The last night, we ate at a local favorite, Maria's.

Special thanks to Matt Stryker for the rec's in Santa Fe. Blue corn enchiladas for Jeff, tamales for JSP, and the best margaritas in town for both.

X-Games Winding Down in Telluride, CO

XGames: Day 3 ends with a 3 mile hike to the Bear Creek Falls in Telluride.

We were bummed to find out that we just missed the Wine Festival- it was sold out! Not deterred, we found another way to taste at a local wine shop and were able to participate in our own way.
Many thanks to loyal reader Don W. for helping us plan out much of the western portion of our trip!

Ziplining with Captain Zipline (X-Games, Day 2)

The guy who ran the Zipline tour in Salida, CO is actually named Captain Zipline (and he's 67).

Ziplining was a piece of cake-only wanted to go faster, higher, and longer. Jin-Streme the adrenaline junkie is looking for her next hit!

We're now watching old Evel Knievel tapes for ideas...

Skycoaster in the Gorge, CO (X-Games Day 1, Part II)

Day 1, Part II- We doubled down at the Royal Gorge. The water levels were too high for us to raft through it, so we decided to swing over it.

Conway's Red Top- Colorado Springs, CO

Another road food pit stop- Jeff ordered the 6 inch cheeseburger with a side of 'frings'.

In response to a comment from loyal reader John C., we are generally complementary orderers, so we tend to try at least two things (one almost always being the specialty). Jeff usually orders this as it's frequently not heart-healthy.

Sometimes, you just have to get the main dish, like at Hires Big H, where we both ordered Big H combos and root beers (Jeff had the float) in frosty mugs.
